Imagine my surprise when I found out that one of my neighbors has published a belly dance book! Small World, huh? Dan Mouer's Bellydances is a collection of black and white photographs from the "good old days" (us cabaret types will be in heaven) and you can see previews at Blurb. You can order it there, too (hint, hint). Order his, then order mine -- words and pictures, they go great together.

I just got an email telling me that June's Tummy Tuesdays will be brought to you by Sheva's School of Belly Dance. Is it almost June already? Oh, my heavens! Well, in any case, Tummy Tuesdays! Positive Vibe on June 26! A good time for sure. Also, Naima's school is holding their hafla at Caribbean Mingles this Sunday from 5-7 pm, and what could be better than Caribbean food except maybe Caribbean food and Naima's students dancing?

For locals who want to see some great dancing (and eat some great food at the same time), check out Tummy Tuesdays at the Positive Vibe Cafe! The next one is March 27 at 7 pm and will be hosted by the very lovely and super talented Zafira Daima. Bonus plug: If you hustle on down there tonight, you can hear some acoustic rock from John Leedes, with whom I saw many a Dead show back in the 1980s. Small world, duuuude.

I just Googled the term "Lunatic Fringe" to settle a bet with my friend Kenny over who did the song in the 1980s (Red Rider, and I won, of course -- Kenny thought it was Deep Purple) and the first entry Google returned was a belly dance boutique in the Bay Area. Great name, you guys! I would have loved that as a title for Snake Hips but my publishers never would have gone for it.

I just set up a redirect from Snakehips.com, so if this is your first time here, welcome. This is the official site of, uh, me, Anne Thomas Soffee. If I don't break the html fooling with it, I should have some new info and whatnot up shortly. Make yourselves at home.

.....but I promised some really cool belly dancers who were kind enough to shimmy for everyone at the Chesapeake Bay Academy Festival of the Book today. If you dare to look behind the cut, you will find half of the infamous rainbow bedlah! Not for the faint of heart.....

Yes, folks, I'm still alive -- and I promise to be better about updating here. Motherhood is treating me wonderfully. I have the most adorable, smart, goodnatured baby in the whole world, kinnehurah, and you know I am not the least bit biased. I've been lying low and enjoying baby time lately, but I'll be making a rare public appearance next week -- accompanied by the lovely ladies of To The Earth Tribal -- for the Junior League. Somewhere in hell, Satan is lacing up his ice skates!

For family and friends, here is the link to our photo album. Marvel at the beauty that is Suleiman the Magnificent!
(I don't mean to tease the folks who don't have the password, but it's a lot easier to tell the relatives to go to www.annesoffee.com than to expect them to navigate all the backslashes and numbers in a Photobucket URL. I'll include one photo here for those of you who either don't have the password or can't make it work: Make with the mouseclick here)
